Silo is designed to work with many different types of online and offline vendors. Placing an order with different vendors varies slightly. There are two ways to place an order:
- Smart Orders - Orders you can place in one click on Silo. Many popular vendors are set up to allow Smart Orders.
- Manual Orders - Orders you need to complete on a vendor's website, or by contacting them directly.
Many of the vendors you use all the time are set up in Silo to allow Smart Orders.
A Smart Order allows you to place an order with one click in Silo. As well as being faster, Smart Orders also automatically capture all tracking information, allowing Silo to keep track of your items in transit. We advise you to use Smart Orders where possible, as they can dramatically speed up your operation.

How Smart Orders Work
The first time you place a Smart Order, you will be asked to confirm a few basic details, like your shipping address, and your preferred shipping option. You will be able to confirm any charges associated with the order.
When you place the Smart Order, Silo automatically creates an order on your behalf with the vendor, for the items in the order. Silo saves the tracking information for you.
Canceling a Smart Order
Silo is designed for the products you consume for your business again and again — products you trust from vendors that you can rely on. Smart Orders are an easy way to get these products reliably and easily.
For this reason, Smart Orders placed with some vendors have restrictions, because of their ability to modify and cancel Smart Orders. See the table below for details:
For all other vendors, you will need to complete your purchase with a vendor, then record the details of the order in Silo, including any tracking numbers for shipments coming your way.
To do this, open up the Quick View of any Draft Order, in the Order List view. Click the Place Order button, and you will see the window change to an easy summary of the order, with links to each item on the right. Click each item's link to open up its product page, and add the item to your cart.
When you have added each item, click the "Added" button that now shows, allowing you to keep track of which items you've added.
When the order is complete, enter the order total, and if you already have a tracking number, enter it here. Both fields are optional.
Click Save Order to complete the process of saving the order into Silo.
You can add tracking information later, when you receive it from the vendor.
